Suggestions for Press Coverage
Impress the Press
- Identify your local press (look under "Radio Stations," "Newspapers" and/or "Television Stations" in your local telephone book). Call the editorial department and explain who you are and that you have an event worthy of a story. Determine who your contact should be: if it's a newspaper, it will likely be the city editor or managing editor; if it's radio or tv, it will likely be the segment producer.
- Submit a press release at least two weeks before event. Be sure to include the time, date, place and address of the event. And of course, your name and telephone number. Follow up with a callor two.
- Provide your own quality photographs of your chapter or events
whenever possible. - In addition to newspapers, contact your local TV and radio stations.
- Refer reporters to www.redhatsociety.com for more information about the disorganization and its humble beginnings.
- Remember, the best way to share the antics of the Red Hat Society is to get noticed!
- Be sure to represent your group as one of more than 35,000 chapters of the Red Hat Society.
- If you have a reporter as a guest at your event, always pay for his or her meal.
