AND A TOAST TO

It seems that beginning with “Decades of Sparkle” there have been many reasons to celebrate and raise a glass in a toast. We did that collectively at the convention as we toasted US and our 10th birthday. Wow! If you weren’t there, you missed a good one! Once again, red (and pink) hatters showed just how creative they are, and the added challenge of dressing for different decades only raised the bar. So many fabulous outfits and hats – women dressed as WWII poster ads for WACS and WAVES, carhops of the 50’s (on roller skates!) teeny-boppers, hippies, disco “dolls”, brides and mothers-to-be (‘cause that’s what they were in the 50’s and 60’s…), Shirley Temple look- a-likes, Elvis impersonators, from Memphis of course, and lots more. Hey, did you notice me in my toy poodle skirt ? Never did enter the hula hoop contest after seeing the competition, but I was on that dance floor, with the hundreds of others, moving to all of the great music we enjoyed! I didn’t give them rubies – I gave them ME, in person, offering my best, ruby anniversary wishes.

So… I’ve been in California these last few weeks trying to stay cool, catching up on some reading, (we have a RHS book club and I’ve been checkin’ out some of those), and working on a short poem for our EQM because this is also her birthday month. Get that glass ready – it’s her 64th – and she deserves a toast. With inspiration from John Lennon and Paul Mc Cartney (remember them –ha?) in their song, “When I’m 64”, this one is for you Sue Ellen:

How did this happen, where’d the time go
Wasn’t I just young?
Seems like only yesterday my friends would say
Can Sue Ellen come out and play?
Now, though I’m older, my answer is, “Yes!”
That’s what friends are for
Will they still need me
Will they still feed me
When I’m 64?

Of course we still need you, and I propose a toast – Happy Birthday! Long live our queen! (And you know her birthstone don’t you? It’s Ruby
