Our story
Why a Playgroup for Women?
Women spend so much time caring for family, careers and communities that we often forget to make time for ourselves. The Red Hat Society is our “recess” from everyday life, a place to have fun, build lasting friendships and celebrate being proudly visible. Red Hatters 50 and beyond wear red hats and purple, while those under 50 wear pink hats and lavender. Join as a Member or Queen and discover a worldwide Sisterhood built on fun, friendship and connection.

Our Cause
Our cause is our commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of women through fun and friendship across the globe.

Our founder
Sue Ellen Cooper
Meet Sue Ellen Cooper, the visionary behind the Red Hat Society. What began with the simple gift of a red hat to a friend in 1998 grew into a worldwide Sisterhood celebrating fun and friendship. Her original red hat now resides in the Smithsonian, and her story continues to inspire women everywhere.
Our story continues into the future by building on the customs of the past, serving as a reminder that we are stronger when we work together.
Our leadership
Leading with Heart
With gratitude for our past and excitement for our future, we invite every woman to write the next chapter - together.
