Past International Conventions

I’d like to open a discussion on past International Red Hat Conventions.

My 1st one was as a gutzy gal in New Orleans 2011. I was blown away with the intoxicating sea of red, purple, pink and lavender in the ballroom. I met so many wonderful ladies who have become such great friends.

My roommate and I arrived almost at the same time near the front desk. Beckie O’Bar and I became instant friends and have roomed together at a few more conventions.

I had talked with many online before going and it was terrific to actually meet them in person. Linda Knight (TooToo) was one of them and I was very happy for her to be crowned the 1st Red Hatter of the Year.

My table hostess’s were Karol Gray and Brenda Marshall and they welcomed us with open arms.

I had talked many times to Marcy LaSalle about going as a gutzy gal and meeting her along with her M & M sister Marlene was the best.

I also met many of the Hat Quarters staff and can say that they are the most helpful and fun group of ladies to play with.

I never felt alone while I was there and had the best time ever with so many lovely women.

Marsha, I’ve been to six Nationals and one Regional, but it was a long time ago. Went to Nashville I and II, Dallas I and II, Vegas I, and San Diego. Vegas was too big (5200 women!!), but the rest were wonderful. My best friend Judy Jet Wallis was my roomie for all but San Diego (Karol Gray was my roomie there), and we were happy to meet so many of the women we had talked to on the QMB. My favorite convention was the Regional one when we Reduated Disneyland in 2005. I had grown up watching Walt Disney every Sunday night, showing the progress that was made on the park during the week, so it was very special to help Disneyland turn 50. Mickey and Minnie escorted Sue Ellen and Linda into the Opening Night festivities, and every woman in the room sang every word to the Mickey Mouse Club theme song. On Saturday, we got to march in the Main Street parade. I was crying by the time that was over. Over the years, I attended six or seven QMB reunions around the country, and they were wonderful, thanks to Pat Hickock and Vicki Wilkerson.

Cynthia thanks for joining my discussion on conventions.

I attended the 2nd one in Vegas…but heard about the 1st one being so many women it had to be held in 2 different sessions. You either ate 1st and then saw the entertainment or saw the entertainment then ate. I think it would have been hard to meet ladies there.

I enjoyed going with a friend from my state we had the best time together. I also got to see a good friend Barb Lesiak be crowned the 2nd Red Hatter of the year.

I haven’t been to any conventions. A bit pricey for me. But I do understand the need for the price to reflect a 3 day event. I have gone to work conventions and know there is a lot to them. I love that this is a small world. As you and I discussed, Marsha, that Beckie O’Bar, your roommate, is in my chapter and here we are many states apart. Without this wonderful society, that would never have happened! BTW, Beckie says hi and sends her love.
